It’s been a little bit since Rescue Dog Wines has checked in with our loyal followers, so we wanted to share some exciting successes we’ve had but have waited far too long to celebrate! We may have shared these with you in a social media post here or there, but read below for a quick summary of our awards and recognitions from 2019 through 2022 so far.
San Francisco Chronicle
In the 2019 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition Awards, our NV Red Wine Blend and Predominantly Poodle Sauvignon Blanc both won gold, while our Demi-Sec Méthode Champenoise Sparkling landed the bronze.
We didn’t submit our wines in 2020, but for the 2021 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition Awards, NV Red Wine Blend took home gold again, and 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon won silver.
“This is a prestigious wine judging event and well-recognized in the industry,” explained Susana Rodriguez-Vasquez, Chief Wine Consultant and Winemaker of Rescue Dog Wines. “It’s quite an accomplishment to participate, win awards, and then earn better scores in the following vintage.”
We do have our own opinions as to why the San Francisco Chronicle thinks our wines are winners. The NV Red Wine Blend has a very velvety texture with great dark fruit aromatics. This wine is great for any occasion. The Predominantly Poodle Sauvignon Blanc tastes very refreshing and crisp. It’s perfect to pair with food or drink by itself. And finally, Demi-Sec Méthode Champenoise Sparkling boasts delicious notes of stone fruit and pear, making it an easy choice to pair with any celebration!
Wine Enthusiast
Recently, the Wine Enthusiast scores were released, and the editors rated and reviewed our wines, which received the following scores:
● 92 points: Rescue Dog Wines 2019 Lisel Brut Blanc de Blancs Méthode Champenoise Lodi ($40)
● 89 points: Rescue Dog Wines 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon North Coast ($25) ● 87 points: Rescue Dog Wines NV Demi-Sec Sparkling Blend Lodi ($30)
For the 2019 Lisel Brut Blanc de Blancs Méthode Champenoise, Wine Enthusiast said, “This complex, savory, even smoky style of wine is attractive in its aromas of grilled baguette and toasted almond. The palate brings generous baked apple, butter and almond flavors that match the rich texture and velvety bubbles.”
And they described our 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon North Coast as, “rich, ripe and tempting, offering ample flavors of blackberry jam, black cherry and milk chocolate framed by a moderately tannic texture.”
“We are very proud of all our wines, but praise from the experienced, professional Wine Enthusiast judges is always validation that we’re doing something right,” said Rodriguez-Vasquez. “At the end of the day, our consumers’ happiness really is our biggest focus.”
